It's a meeting of that infamous secret club, The League of Anti-Oxidative Gentlemen.
Or, if it isn't, then it might be, looking at the list of wines drunk.
Or, maybe it's just Marc and Ira calling the gang together for a hangout.
Bacchus treated us well, if a little erratically:
Larmandier-Bernier 2012 Champagne 1er BdB "Terre de Vertus" - 12.5%, this is Chalk Central, quite dry, good balance of lees and yellow fruit
Wolfram Stempel 2021 Riesling "MHT21" - 11.5%, strong slate flavor, lacks some of the florality that I expect in riesling, really long but a little lacking in charm, I've read since that this is trocken (mais quelle surprise!)
Selbach-Oster 2017 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Feinher "Ur" Alte Reben - 11.5%, 2 606 319 026 18, intense and in the floral sachet style rather than the green grapes style, this is another vintage of one of Jay's favored bottles (mine, too)
Trimbach 2002 Riesling "Cuvee Frederic Emile" - 12.5%, resinous, delightful texture, long, "richer than usual" -Jayson
Marcel Deiss 1996 Pinot Blanc - OTH (the nose is not bad but the palate is shot)
Dagueneau 2008 Blanc Fume de Pouilly - dead
Grosset 2010 Riesling, Polish Hill, Clare Valley - incredibly sulfury on the nose (did we grab the Prum by mistake?), also lots of diesel and a vaguely disgusting palate, a sorry bottle
Falkenstein 2022 Niedermenniger "Im Kleinschock" Riesling Kabinett (AP 20) - 8%, more available on the palate than in the bouquet, appears to be shutting down
Prum 2020 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett - this is so sulfury we decant it with vehemence, and then... so much palate presence! green grapes, rocks and river water, wow wine
Haart 2020 Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Kabinett - 8.5%, 2 596 738 002 21, warm ripe fruit flavors and soft acids; that said, it still has rather a lot of charm just more in the mode of tutti-frutti pastry cream (don't knock it till you've tried it)
Leitz 2001 Rudesheimer Kirchenpfad Riesling Spatlese - 9.5%, 24079 003 002, wowie, great acids, noticeable sweetness, lots of body, what a great 23-year-old
Rivers-Marie 2021 Pinot Noir, Occidental Ridge - 14.3%, floral in the nose but bitter on the palate
Karl Lawrence 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon - 14.2%, gentle oaking, blood and dark berry fruit, this is delicious
Pavelot 2012 Savigny-les-Beaunes "La Dominode" - 13%, Jay says this is shutting down and I'm inclined to agree, it's good but the fruit is skimpy, the nose is neither floral nor enticing, oh well
Damilano 2000 Barolo "Cannubi" - OK, I guess, but still brutally monolithic
Baumard 2001 Coteaux du Layon "Clos de Sainte Catherine" - 12.5%, honeyed, long, wow
Dr. Loosen 2009 Erdener Pralat Riesling Auslese - 7%, 2 576 162 4310, 375ml, marzipan nose, rather light and dry for an auslese, certainly nice and drinkable
J.J. Christoffel 1993 Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Auslese*** - 8.5%, 2 602 041 19 94, unbeknownst to the Winebid seller, but known to Jayson, is that this is actually a Bernkasteler Ring auction bottle, very stylish, honeyed, young fruit still shows, slight friction (tannins?), wonderful wine
Pinon 2005 Vouvray "Cuvee Botrytis" - 10.5%, 500ml, compared to the heavyweights around here this is light, delicate even, with pit fruit and honey and clear water
Sorry this took so long to post but it got caught behind several whirlwinds in my life that took a while to settle. Maybe four more to come, plus a big do tomorrow.
