Source for Lugana wine?

I'd guess it's widely available as 70% of its annual production of 17 million bottles are exported to. the US. First hit on google for me shows a few producers available at Total Wine. If you have a big box wine retailer near. you maybe start there.

Thanks, Bill.

Everywhere I have checked says unavailable, including all stores of Total Wine.

I believe (?) I have read that only 5% of Lugana is exported to U.S.

Any ideas about possible availability in the U.S. of Lugana white wine would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Why? Most of it is cheap, overcropped, industrial, and insipid wine.

I misread the article. 70% of 17million bottles was distributed worldwide with the US being the 4th largest destination.

Mark, a friend just got back from spending time in Italy and said that it was widely popular over there and that he enjoyed it also. Googling seems to find generally favorable reviews on it. He said he has been unable to find any here in the U.S. and that all the purveyors say it sells out immediately up on arrival here.

I had never heard of Lugana wine so I thought I may as well see if I can find some to taste. Based on your assessment, it sounds like a misguided initiative.

Even so, I would still like to sample some.

Last month in Venice I had a glass of 2023 Franco e Luciano Piona Lugana ‘L Lac 13,5% that was quite fruity and tasty, but not particularly distinctive. It and others seems to be available at https://www.wineenthusiast.com, whatever that is (can't make out if it's an online only store or what).

The vast majority of Lugana goes to Germany where it seems to have overtaken the similarly insipid Pino Gritscho in popularity as a summer sipper embodying Italian flair.. Fitting for a country where the average price of wine sold in stores is 3 Euros - per liter.
