It was just posted on FB that Thor Iverson passed away. The post was made by his ex-brother in law. He was only in his mid 50s. He said a while ago that he was dealing with some health issues. He and I had some good times together. Sure, he could be a cantankerous SOB. As some of you knew, debate him at your peril! He and I had some music discussions that went well into the night (and early morning). IMO, the two best wine reviewers on this bored were him and Coad.
 
Sad to hear. A difficult temperament, but a powerful mind, who contributed much to this place until he was hounded away (the manner in which this happened remains the low point in our history).
 
This terribly sad news. I was hoping to get to Philly this Fall to have dinner with him again, but alas it will not be. I’ll have to open a Trimbach in his memory.

I'm very sad to hear this. I spent many delightful moments with Thor; I hadn't seen him in 7-8 years but I did get occasional updates through a mutual acquaintance, from whom it sounded as though Thor had begun to straighten things out.
 
I just read this on FB from Paulo Faustino and came here to post the news if it wasn’t already here. Very sad news indeed. Another of the old guard gone
 
Terrible news. I always enjoyed his company and his style. And his stories.

Let's hope he's gone to a place with lots of Trimbach, lots of King Crimson, and just enough armagnac for him and me to get royally plastered.

Oh no. Thor was such a prominent early member of the group of us that broke away from WLDG to Wine Asylum/Therapy over 2 decades ago. (Unless I’m flubbing that fading memory.) I always enjoyed my time chatting with Thor, virtually and live. Although it has been many years since that happened, this is very sad news.
 
Oh,shit! He was just at my house for dinner! Well, in early June. I couldn’t tell he was ill.

Thor and I always got along. I dined at his home when he was married. Geez, maybe 30+ years ago. And he and Therese came here right after I moved in and drank a 1990 Donnhoff NH spatlese with me on my front porch. He amused me no end. Sad!
 
Sad news. Unfortunately, like others here, he and I were at odds. However, I will never forget the dinner we had together at La Rocchetta with the Coads, Dressner, Jay Miller and I think one other person was there. Dressner was in peak form that night. My other fond memory of Thor was his and Tom Troiano's epic argument on Garr's Wine Lover's Discussion Group about where the borders of Boston start and end.

I never had an opportunity to meet Thor in person. I can say without any doubt I learned a fair amount about wine and food back in the WLDG days when I was just learning about the subject.

I remember an essay he wrote talking about natural wine, intervention vs nonintervention, and linking this topic to the Lord of the Rings and the problems the movie had with its adaption from the books. It was a great piece, and captured his insight and particular genius. I think the essay can be found on Thor’s linked in page.

Hearing of Thor's passing yesterday really hit me hard. He was good friend, a difficult one, but a friend none the less.
We had. a long liquid lunch a couple months ago that I will always remember. He was his usual witty, cantankerous and funny self. We recently texted about doing it again soon.
I enjoyed cooking with him, trying to match wits with him (never successfully) and just picking his brain about various topics.
He was one of the most intelligent people I ever had the pleasure to call a friend.
Rest in peace Thor, you will be missed. A lot.

I had to go look it up (I joined WLDG just before y'all left and didn't catch up with you again until Therapy). I don't see Thor's name on any Asylum posts.
