The Beaujolais TN thread

Some of the new natural producers have been coming in with sub-11% wines. Less in the Beaujolais, although I think there are some, but more in the Jura and Savoie. Results have not been uniformly good, but I have had some good ones.

Reportedly Chateauneuf-du-Pape producers are even trying to cut back (but they're starting from 15.5 and on up), although most of the bottles I examine on the shelves do not indicate that they are succeeding.

I've also seen lower alcohol levels from people in way-out-there AOPs.

I just finished off a bottle of 2023 Côte Roannaise La Colline en Flamme from Romain Paire/Domaine des Pothiers. Very nice and only 12% alcohol. And easier price than many a drinkable Beaujolais these days.

??? May not be in Total Wine, but Pothiers has a few US importers.

ch de chenas moulin a vent 1979, bottled by alexis lechine -- readerz of teh other threads may note a convergence: i just got back from a week on teh werk road, and craved home cooking (don't ask). feeling in the need for a last glass to please teh fatshirst, i reached for this...

1. i have no idea where it came from (satsink says "a long forgotten auction lot and licks lips).

2. fatsink is only a sink, what the fuck does he know. ahem.

3. fuck you fatsink. think recent 79 des tours brouilly. many times.

so we approach with a sense of teh conflict in teh fatschloß:

cork is good. first notes are strawberries. strawberries strawberries strawberries!!

in time it is clear shit is also a tiny bit chaptalized and a wee bit oversulphured. in teh sprit of clearly up teh matters of clear import to humanity, i try again.

said bottle is drained soon. hello "glass."

so. *way* more fun than burying teh dead. and always gamay.

Sérol is the other big name for Côtes Roannaise and I'm pretty sure they are available in the U.S.

Following on from Claude’s post, I’ve had some impressive bottles of Sérol’s 2022 Perdrizière.

A few bottles of the 2021 Morgon VV last summer/fall were gorgeous, remarkably juicy for the vintage, but still fresh. Haven't tasted since then though.
