FL Jim

Ken Zinns got this email from Jim. It’s been shared on FB so I’m posting it here. For those who don’t know, Jim and his wife live in North Carolina:
No water, no power, no way out - war zone. We got a shower today and it’s the best thing ever.
Lots of good folks helping each other.
No Wi-Fi except City hall which is where I am now.
Total craziness.

Thanks for posting this! I haven't heard from him since Sunday AM.

It's really bad up there, I don't think people really realize how bad. Given the terrain, some people are totally isolated without food, potable water, electricity, or gas.

We have friends from Asheville staying with us. Fortunately for them, they were in Baltimore when it happened, so came straight here. They have two school age kids who don't know if their friends are safe or when they'll start school again.

It's good to hear people in Jim's community are helping each other and I hope that's the way it is everywhere, but I've heard darker anecdotes.

I've spent a lot of time where he is (Hounds Ears, Banner Elk, etc.) and know full well what he's dealing with.

Here's wishing him well.

. . . . . Pete

You scared me with the title, I thought something worse had happened!

But glad he is struggling through. It is brutal, and all the more ironic given the fact that those NC mountains were supposed to be a refuge from climate disasters.

Wow, yeah, I thought the worst when I saw the title. It's still not good, far from it, but glad that people are helping each other.

Safe and well.

Heading for FL - we got to Charlotte last night.
A hot shower and clean clothes - a wonderful luxury.

Drink well . . .

Jim, FL is about to have a big hurricane.

By any chance do you have a third home?

He posted that he's headed for Washington DC, since Fla is out of the question. Crazy times, human stupidity making the sky fall upon our heads.

Actually, that was a joke (although if trouble is chasing me what better place to bring it along).
I’m going to my brother’s place in St. Augustine.
He has done all the retrofit for hurricanes and he can take my dog, too.
But watching the latest tracking info shows the eye will track one mile north of my house. I am not optimistic.

Maybe you should consider coming to DC. There are disorderly winos here.
