NWR: Neal's Yard theft

Hundreds of wheels of farmhouse Cheddar were stolen from Neal's Yard. As an avowed lover of their farmouse Cheddars, I'm particularly saddened by this.

Hopefully the stocks of quince and damson paste were untouched.
The stolen amount is 22 tonnes. I doubt there is that much damson paste in the world.

More's the pity.

'stolen'? call me old fashioned*, but when i dig behind teh story, it seems it is more a case of nigerian princes than men in stripy sweatshirts stealing about in teh dead of night. is 'scammed' not teh mot juste in this case?

fb. (*offer me an old fashioned, and you get a different response.)

Indeed. Makes me feel stupid that I paid for my haul a few weeks ago.

Really bizarre. Who the hell fences high end farmhouse cheddar? And no individual or even restaurant could use up 22 tons of cheddar.

However, if you are feeling deprived, Jasper Hill/Cabot's clothbound Cheddar and Shelburne Farms Cheddar (both Vermont in origin) are delicious substitutes.

The same guys who stole all that maple syrup?

Legit query. Begs the question: who buys maple syrup and farmhouse cheddar in fenced mega-quantities?

From Klaus Fuchs to farmhouse cheddar to American elections, the Russians have never been very good about that "Thou shalt not steal" portion of the rule book.

This would make a perverse sense. With the sanctions and arrest warrants making shopping difficult, there's probably someone there who's opened an Amazon for Oligarchs, where you can order luxuries stolen from around the world.

More like a Silk Road for the Nomenklatura.
