CWD: 2022 Extradimensional Mind Left Body

With our home-cooked imitation of NYC wood-fired oven pizza, a bottle of 2022 Extradimensional Wine Company Yeah! Mind Left Body Mourvedre, a wine that we first tasted in their tasting room whilst on sabbatical last Spring and fair turned my blushing bride's head. A blend of 75% Evangelho Mourvedre, 15% del Barba Carignane and 10% skin-fermented Chardonnay, it has pure red-fruited, medium-bodied beauty with just enough tannic presence to pair well with pizza and a new episode of Apple TV's Prime Target. All in all, a great respite from the madness that has consumed our professional lives.

Mark, the pairing sounds inspired. And what a tantalizing blend. What did the Chardonnay add in your opinion (I'm guessing it enhanced the balance)?

Pete, the blend is so harmonious that it's difficult to tease out the influence of any given component. I'd hazard a guess (based on a comparison to the varietal Mourvedre that they make) that it helps smooth out the tannins and round out the mouthfeel.

I'm really impressed by those folks, we tried to get there over Christmas but it didn't work out.

I loved this wine. It's never possible to say what any given component adds to these blends. Most of them don't even make sense even after you look up the spec sheet. All you need to know is that Hardy is a magician when it comes to cooking up a blend.

I have worked with some talented winemakers and I have been impressed in many ways but Hardy . . . there’s no ‘splainin’. A true original.

That he is, Jim, that he is.

Speaking of extradimensional, maybe my memory is fading, but I was just watching Keir Starmer's brief to the House of Commons (about the Ukraine meetings over the weekend) and his phenotype reminded me of Joe's. Positive associations all around.
