Non Pépière or Luneau Muscadet recommendations

VLM

Currently LDM is not in my market. Does anyone have recommendations or even replacements for Pépière Briords or Luneau Clos des Allées?

My guess is really no on Pépière Briords, but is there anything close?

Landron, Branger, Chéreau-Carré, and Brégeon are names I recognize that are available-ish here.

Any help greatly appreciated.

the landron lineup is solid same for bregeon, who might run is a richer style.

on the budget end, pallet muscadet sur lie "les petites sardines" is really bright and clean and brought in by grape expectations which should give wide distribution. you might find it for ten or eleven bucks.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with Robert. Landron and Brégeon are, IMO, ok but unexciting compared to what else is out there. Brégeon was absolutely topnotch for decades (I first started buying them in the 1980s), but the hand-off to Lalllier moved the quality down a level or two.

Some other names that I've liked a lot:

Manoir de la Grelière/R. Branger (this goes for about 6.5e [$7, tax included] in Paris so it ought to be inexpensive, if available, in the US)

Famille Lieubeau

Manoir de la Hersandière/Gérard Sourice

Jérôme Bretaudeaux's Muscadets are on many of the best restaurant wine lists in Paris, but I've yet to find them in a store; and in the restaurants, it always seems like there's something else of more interest for the meal. As a consequence,I've not yet tasted a wine from him. They are not cheap.

Claude,
If Wine-Searcher is telling the truth, none of those are in their data base in the US.
I'm not surprised for Manoir de la Grelière or Manoir de la Hersandière. Lieubeau is brought in by European Cellars/Jon-David Headrick selections, which is located in VLM's state, NC. Bretaudeaux is Grand Cru Selections. At least that's what google tells me.

Chereau-Carre make seriously good wine but it seems to me important to stick to cooler vintages, of which there aren't many these days.

I'm working on some notes from last week and I just noticed that I had one of these: the "Gabbro" bottling, perfectly typique, a good glass of muscadet.

My distributor doesn't have the Lieubeau Muscadet, just the Folle Blanche (not surprising, they're mostly a beer company and kinda suck).

Bretaudeau is Wasserman here (not surprising, this seems to happen a lot with shared brands, whoever registers with the state first wins). They are quite expensive. These are my wholesale costs:
Bretaudeau Muscadet Gabbro Clos Des Bouquinardieres '22 $30.99
Bretaudeau Theia Muscadet '23 $25.99

I guess $25.99 is about what Briords shipped would be.

They are expensive! The Jérôme Bretaudeau Gaïa Muscadet 2021 is $60 retail here. and that Gabbro clos is around $45. Anyone know why?

Agreed, very classic style.

My guess is because no one else had positioned themselves as the "cool kidz only" Muscadet? I mean, it's got the wax and the cool labels, but that doesn't mean the wines can't be good. Maybe I'll get a bottle to try.

These are very easy for me to source locally, thanks Tom and BJ.

I have had the 2018 Bretaudeau "Gabbro" twice and both were satisfactory, not much more. Pretty sure Cohen and Grossman were there both times, maybe Jay for the first one Ira opened. Not much I won't drink if someone else is paying.

My experience with 2018 Muscadets is that "satisfactory" was a huge success for the vintage. Most were fat and flabby.

The Centenaire cuvee is pretty special...but I've liked everything.

Oh, and how could I forget Vincent Caille. Very special, probably trending more in the Luneau direction.

Yeah. I thought it was *meh*. It was 2018 so it’s possible it’s better in a sounder vintage structurally.

If this bottle was indicative, I would never waste my money here. Fool me once, . . . .

I've been tucking into Batard Langelier - '23 les Prieres last night and tonight. Last night it seemed a little simple and blocky - tonight much better, quite complex...will post a better note on the Monnieres soon...
