Salil Benegal
Salil Benegal
1998 Chateau Quinault L'Enclos
Tried to drink over two nights. Failed. More than half the bottle's still sitting in the fridge, and I don't think there's any redeeming value to this wine, unless the empty bottle's used as a paperweight.
Initially popped and poured, showing big intense aromatics of black fruits over smoke, tobacco, coffee and oak. Brutal in the mouth though, where it was a mass of oak and ash-like flavours at first. The oak/ash flavours subsided slightly with air to show some dark fruits, coffee and herbs underneath, but the oak still dominated and obscured the fruit and other flavours. Left the remains in the fridge in hopes that it might somehow improve, but the following night the oak was even more dominant and the overall impression was of charred wood somehow liquefied.
