Red wine reaction

A guy is an avid wine enthusiast -- has visited a number of wine regions, has an impressive wine collection, and is considered investing in a winery.

Alas, now when he drinks red wine he ends up with headache, nausea, etc. Last night, for example, he had a red wine with dinner and woke up at midnight with a terrible headache and had to treat it.

Are there any (magic?) preventative measures he can take prior to drinking red wine that might be effective?

Thanks for any ideas.

Antihistamines? Anyway, thinking about investing in a winery would give anyone a permanent headache.

Pete, to the extent that anyone understands the origin of red wine headaches, it’s been attributed to histamines, so Mark E’s suggestion of antihistamines is a good one. Alcohol itself has also been implicated so hydration before bed might help, too.
