Don't come across these much, and I like this a lot. A substitute cold night aperitif.

07 Chermette Les Griottes Nice and fresh and clean, with a nice interesting smoke popping up toward the end. Yes, cherries. Great all rounder.

I've got to say, I don't get the anti Chermette tilt here. He makes very good wines. I'll even stick my neck out and say if Joe's label was on this, people would rave.

Also, having another 01 Chateau des Jacques MaV, not quite on par with the last, but very good. I think 01 was a great MaV vintage (also had an 01 Chermette MaV that was one of the best Beaujolais I've had).

I never noticed an anti Chermette tilt here.

Maybe I didn't pay close enough attention.
 
A bunch of people think the wines beyond the basic version are too ripe. I haven't tasted too broadly, but the ones I've had have been very good.

Is this Jadot?

If yes, I tried the 2005 version, and while I liked it a lot, I wasn't sure I could tell it was made from Gamay. It was a very meaty wine, more Gevrey than Beaujolais.

Yes, Jadot. And that is a common reaction.
 
I don't know, just an impression. Maybe I'm super wrong. It was formed somewhere. I seem to remember people finding his wine over ripe.

The Jadot is very Gevrey, and a little Pommard. This one was just super. One of those bottles with a little age on it that you don't have to hesitate about wondering whether you really like it or not.
 
FL Jim is Chermette PR central, are you kidding?

Anyone know how much wine these guys make, and how it is divided up?

Chermette does a Beaujolais, a couple of MaVs, and a couple of Fleuries. And now, a rose!

We visited him in 2005 and he was pretty jerky - an anti American chip on his shoulder, even when (I hope) we sounded like we knew what we were talking about. Had that monolithic I know everything French guy thing going. But at that point, who could blame him? I loved one of the Fleuries in particular, I think the Garants, and he made a point of saying that Americans couldn't understand it. I made a point of buying it (it was his best wine I thought).

But I love his wine.

It's wine, not a mathematical theorem.

Sharon had a post about this a little while back, maybe she will recall what Chermette said. Something about one of the Fleurie bottles was preferred by Americans and the other more by the British?

Yes, ok, I can see this. And I can see where he's coming from with the critique.

I still think it is more an issue of not liking as opposed to not understanding, but I guess the two can be quite similar concepts.
