TN: Nebbiolo, dammit

Opened Mauro Franchino 2012 Gattinara tonight. This is perfect. There is grip, there are roses and just a touch of thorn, totally dry unjuicy redfruit (you know, like grown-ups drink), a hint of smoke and cedar and bay leaf and bbq beef, full dark red like it was born yesterday, long and wistful finish.

If you're drinking something Italian, post here!

Sound perfect.

Just opened a bottle of 2018 Monteraponi Chianti Classico. Still good, but seems to be rather prematurely on the down swing.

I love this producer. Increasingly difficult to source them as he no longer works with Portovino. The 2012 is a very good vintage and this post made me look at inventory and I haven't had a bottle since 2021. Time to remedy! The 2015 is fiercely tannic earlier this year, so don't be tempted to open one soon.

This was never going to make old bones. I drank the last of mine last Spring and it was time.
