RIP: Hans Günter Schwarz

The Master passed away a few days ago. I just found out.

No one in Germany was a better winemaker. Riesling, Rieslaner, Scheurebe, Muscat. The grape didn’t seem to matter. He had the magic touch. How many times have we waxed poetic over one of his wines? How much do we treasure the bottles we have left?

RIP.

I was lucky enough to visit Müller-Catoir during his time there, not really knowing the wines but having heard lots of buzz. It was quite amazing. It was inevitable that I would drink German Riesling; it's his fault that I drink Scheurebe and Muscat.

I am deeply grateful for the wine he made and that I had a chance to drink a few of them.

I hope he got to enjoy his long retirement to the fullest, as annoying as it was for this board.

Anyone up for a Burgergarten vertical?
