Is Everyone Off Attending the Inauguration Today?

I also wondered if today all Disorderists were off packing the Mall or just giddy with possibility and unable to navigate teh Interweb. We finished off a bottle of '06 Roilette Fleurie as we caught the replay of his speech on Lehrer's Newshour. Now, I'm back to overseeing the production of a confit de canard.

I hid under my blankets all day, fearful to hear about rednecks with good aim.
My sister in law, who resides in Utah, told me that people at her work were remarking this morning that we need to watch Obama because "Hitler was a good orator as well."
Gosh, we conservatives are so evil in comparison to all those lefties who never, not once, compared Bush to Hitler over the last 8 years!

Earlier in the day I was having problems logging on, I wasn't sure if it was Hope-bandwidth issues or the result of the Change 1.0 OS patch I downloaded earlier today from Apple's website.

Things seem fine now, though.

Whatever conservatism Bush represented is pretty much completely discredited about now, wouldn't you say?

What does conservatism even mean the context of the Bush years? Or even at all? What does it mean to call yourself a "conservative"? Has never made any sense to me.

I'm all for intellectualism. Philosopher kings and all.

Bush never represented any kind of conservatism. But that doesn't mean he was Hitler.

Of course not, no oratorial skills.

Edit: I'm with Chris. What is everyone drinking tonight?

86 Chateau de Plaisance Coteaux du Layon Chaume. The last of it, opened for 5 days or so.

Aretha doesn't need to look good.

And what about the the strict constructionist screwing up the oath of office? After all, it's right there in the Constitution. Word for word.

What does that have to do with anything? You Jews and your Hitler thing. I blame Barbara Hirsch for that, Gaza, and maybe even the Holocaust.

I'm just done with stupid. All I care about is more science, a flat tax, and states rights.

That was some good shit. You really couldn't have made it up.

I heard all the stuff all day about our peaceful transfer of power in the US, and it made me a little wistful. Couldn't we have roughed those guys up just a bit on the way out?

Nerves. Guy's never done a line reading in front of a crowd that size before, it's not like when he rehearsed it at home in front of the mirror.

At least somebody got the oath right.

Those of us not huddled under the covers in Massachusetts dug into a bottle of Tenute Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 1997 with dinner and reruns of the day. The wine, which was shrill, hot, and one dimensional (dark) last night had transformed miraculously into a seamless, smooth, beautiful and effusive expression of Italian wine. Every once in awhile it pays not to pour the rest of the bottle down the sink. Give this one a healthy decant if you have any left laying about.

I know. I shouldn't be so hard on him. Stage fright is a hoary beast.

I don't think I was making generalizations, but if I was, they were towards Utahns.

Did you miss the picture of them (Obama and Bush) hugging it out?

They did. Those joining in the thrilling birth of renewal sang that repulsive ditty Na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye as 43 left by helicopter.

That is what I was thinking. I was thinking that those guys better get their sorry asses out of town fast while the gettin' is good...

I also agree however that it is irresponsible to label Bush as Hitler--in fact, it minimizes the very real crimes of somebody like Hitler when his name is tossed around like that as a label for every conservative you don't care for.

I myself just finished a 2002 Huet Vouvray Petillant--round but slightly tart palate, very refreshing and lively flavors, with emerging complexity on the palate. Faint aromas of peach and apricot showing as the wine warmed up. Otherwise, very primary, I would be interested to see how this does as some secondary and/or tertiary notes appear with more bottle age...

Hitler was a lot of things. Conservative wasn't even remotely one of them.

Humans are brutal and stupid. If they have leadership to egg them on, well watch the fuck out.

I've been needing something to cheer me up lately.

The sight, off the DVR tonight, of 2 million people showing up to cheer the packing boxes being loaded into the moving van from the White House for delivery in KnowNothing, Texas is a fucking start. I'll have to watch the rest of the coverage later.
