I am sick and can't really taste anything..

That must be a form of bitter torture.

Well at least you have the scenery and the comaraderie..

Camaraderie, Tovarisch. Agree about the suckiness of it all, though.

The Overnoy Poulsard was excellent. My benchmark, in pretty limited experience, with Poulsard is the 2004 Puffeney. The Overnoy was lighter styled, with better transparency but perhaps not as much overall interest. I'm really looking forward to Puffeney's 2006 Poulsard -- his 2006 Trousseau is excellent, and I like Poulsard better than Trousseau.

Don't tell me who won, I've got the entire Liverpool/Chelsea game dvr'd!

Fuck The Steelers! They didn't cover the spread! Underachievers!!!!!!

Tell us more about this "spread" of which you speak...
I can't believe you could live within the city limits of NY and not know what the spread is. In a nutshell the Steelers were 6 & half point favorites they had to win by 7 if I was to win my bet. What is this country coming to when citizens don't know what the "spread" is. 6 and a half was the spread.
No wonder people didn't understand sub prime.

Don't quote me, but I could have sworn I saw 3.5 quoted on ESPN.com.

Looks like you bet with the wrong folks!

Such is the nature of 'gambling'..

Aha, we are on the same page. That 2004 Puffeney Poulsard is breathtaking, and I've also been unable to find quite the same magic since. Has the 2006 landed yet?

I'm sorry, I live on an 800-foot wide island in the middle of what is euphemistically called the "East River." It may be in the middle of New York City, but, despite our appreciation for satire we have small town ways, and know little of this complicated "spread" and "sub prime" terminology y'all speak of.

I may not know how many points Limping Sparrow got from Parker but believe me I know what the line is on every event I've bet a dollar or two on.

Don't think so, Slaton. The guys at Terroir aren't sure when Rosenthal will release it, but they should get some when it hits the market.

Ok. I defer to your wisdom.

The spread was changed the day before the game. Too many takers on 3.5.

I don't usually bet on things, but I also changed the spread on my bottle of Louviere when I saw the cork.

WOTN for me was the 2006 Arnot-Roberts Clary. 12.6% Syrah. Picked in November. From California.

I've liked this wine very much each time I had it.

I'd love to be able to sell my brezemes at these prices though...

Their Clary Ranch was just $32 or so. I think it was the cheapest of their Syrahs, no doubt because it was flawed by being underoaked and underripe. :) For the $32, I'd buy more if I could find it. But they only made three barrels, so I'm not holding out hope.

So you're saying that football is a primitive experience.

Heard in an interview with George Will on WSB Radio, Atlanta:

Caller: "What do you think about football?"

Will: "Football is a mistake. It combines the two worst elements of American life. Violence and committee meetings."

Given my cholesterol I've had to research spreads extensively. Currently I use Earth Balance which is not as spreadable as I'd like but has a decent flavor. I liked Canoleo but it vanished from all stores to be replaced by the much less attractive Olivio. My mother liked Brummel & Brown and Smart Balance but I don't care for either of them. None of them hold a candle to salted butter but that doesn't make my doctor happy. In terms of cream cheese I still like Temptee best but Philadelphia whipped with chives is tasty enough. And (ref. cholesterol above) Tofutti is surprisingly edible.

Since Tannat has more cholesterol-fighting resveratrol than any other grape, you just need to drink more Madiran! (Oh wait, we tried that.)

Nope, that honor goes to Finger Lakes Pinot Noir. Please get a photo of Jay's face as you administer him the beneficent elixir. Jay'd probably start bugging Scott Kraft for his spam to get out of that one.
