Live blogging: Soul Flavors

The gangs all here in Jersey City! The Garden State is atwitter with tne presence of SFJoe and Sharon Bowman, she lf the brigjt yellow tights.

Controversy of the evening, is the '89 Huet demi-sec corked?

I usually find the question of whether or not 89 Huet is corked to be answered in the affirmative.

Still, nobody makes corked wines quite like Huet. Yum.

In this case it was eventually answered in the affirmative. But if I have to drink corked wine, '89 Huet is right at the top of the list.

I don't think Kane quite understands the concept of liveblogging, to tell you the truth. This one seems wayyyy undercooked.

Did you really have to drink corked wine? Not enough alternate bottles available?

I know we're in a recession, but damn!!

At first, there was some controversy. It didn't seem quite right, but there wasn't overt wet-cardboard TCA, and chenin blanc holds corkiness better than any other wine, so even when it did finally make itself known, it was still enjoyable on some level to all but the most hardcore TCA-haters (and yes, Eden and Lisa, I'm looking at YOU).

Sorry. I got too caught up ogling the bruised lip Lisa gave Sharon in a jealous rage and calling her phat all evening.

Really bummed about the Huet. It tasted really good, but it was definitely not right and quite different from a bottle I had at a Huet-a-thon with the DC folks some years back. A double drat since, believe it or not, it was Dougherty's first try of the wine and I consider the '89 to be one of the best demi-secs ever, when on.

The '90 Verset Joe brought was shweeet. See, Anisman, is that so hard?

I never got TCA from that wine, I confess, but don't have other experiences to compare.

Sadly, I have many, many similar experiences from Huet '89s. Something seems to have gone quite awry with the cork supply that year.

Yep. Fixed.

So, where are those copious notes you were taking? My little sheet only has a few strange markings in blue felt tip, such as "B+" and "A/A-," next to my own ballpoint jottings.

I became so disheartened with the showing of the '89 demi-sec that I gave up.

Methinks you should work on the chicken dinner report you said you'd have up yesterday before you move on to the sugar added soul food report.

Is there a statute of limitations for posting observations in a "live blogging" thread?

If none of us is dead yet*, I think this can still be considered live blogging.

*Though Chris Coad has not checked in yet today.
