Last night my wife and I visited some friends. They were hosting a tasting of Kermit Lynch wines with four couples. Although they are in to wine, this was their first foray into a formal tasting. They did an excellent job. We drank the white, non-blind, with blinis with Salmon Roe and Mushroom caviar. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost my note with the name of the white. It was a fresh Languedoc white that had lovely aromatics. I thought there might be some Sauvignon Blanc in it. I did not take notes on the white though. Then we sat down to taste the reds, blind, with bread, followed by an excellent pot luck dinner. It was a very fun night of great conversation and interesting wines. The theme of the wines was Wine from Kermit Lynch.
2006 Cuvee Selecion Par Kermit Lynch VdP Vaucvluse
Purple/ruby in color, slightly flat. The nose has lots of cherry soda. On the palate, this is tart with some cranberry notes. Hat and alcohol on the disjointed finish. I was not a fan of this one.
2005 Chateau La Rouge Pic St. Loup Languedoc
Ruby/purple in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cherries and a raspberries with a slight menthol note. Thinner body. On the palate, sweet raspberries. Slight complexity. Soft finish. A nice wine depending on the price. Went well with food.
2006 Domaine Tempier Bandol
Regular bottling. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has a slight funk with black raspberries and black olives. It dissipated, unfortunately, with air. Complex. On the palate, raspberries and spice. Some anise on the finish. Also some herb note. Plenty of tannins which got fiercer with air. Needs time.
2006 Domain DAupilhac Montpeyroux Languedoc
Inky purple, opaque bright. The nose has spice and a slight funk with black raspberries. Full bodied. Complex. Medium tannins. On the palate, black raspberries and some leather. Long finish. The groups and mine WOTN.
