In walking into my local package store (I hate to call it a wine shop) this week, I noticed a cardboard display which touts Dan Aykroyd as the owner of a new brand, "Dan Aykroyd Wines". My horror quickly turned to glee, however, when I learned from the display that THE Dan Aykroyd will be at this very same liquor store to promote these wines tomorrow (Friday) from 4pm - 7pm. Bear in mind, this shop is located in Peabody Massachusetts, 45 minutes North of anything interesting. I have no idea why Beldar chose this spot, but I am thankful.

Screw you guys meeting winemakers like Jean Trimbach, I'm meeting Dan Aykroyd!

From France, yes, but all records of vineyards were lost after the cargo plane crash landed in Lake Michigan.

Perhaps Mr. Ackroyd invested his assets with the likes of a Bernard Madoff. Here in Chicago, the local big-chain wine and spirits retailer is pimping Dan Ackroyd as its "celebrity guest bartender" in support of his new line of wines. This same website also claims they come from Sonoma, so if in fact they're Canadian somebody got the wrong tech sheet. Either way, looks like Mike Ditka finally has some competition here. Thank god, because I don't trust wines from those pretentious Europeans.

The latest inside info also includes a hipster amphora-aged Czech wine. Apparently made by two wild and crazy guys.

Ackroyd is in town promoting his newest House of Blues opening next to Fenway Park.

All the cool kids were there - did you miss it, Joe?

Well, screw you, too. I'll be in Toledo wondering where the fuck you are, Joe. And you won't get any of the oxdidative white wines I'm bringing, either (more for Mike).

*Ugh* I couldn't get out of working tomorrow. Bleah. That's what happens when everyone gets laid off and you have a hiring freeze not to replace any of the positions. I thought my best bet was that I would also get laid off.

Oh well, next year.

Come on, there has to be more. Did you at least try out some of the material from this thread? I'll bet he's heard them all twice.

Actually, he was very nice. He hammed it up for the crowd, busting through the double doors of Kappy's and saying "Santa is in the building". He was nice to people, slipped into character and quoted lines from SNL and movies. He signed whatever people brought for him to sign, even put up with some tool-bags who were in front of me and demanded multiple photos and videos.

The line that I had rehearsed was in regards to his Cab-Shiraz, in which I was going to ask him if blending these two grapes was a little like crossing proton streams. Sadly, he wasn't selling them today so I had nothing. He did sign two bottles of wine for me, and after I identified myself as a wine geek, went out of his way to talk to me even as I was already removing myself to allow the next person. He told me that while he loves Cheval and Haut Brion, his favorite wine of all time is 1990 Diamond Creek Gravelly Meadow. I probably could have kept talking with him but I was actually feeling self-conscious for the first time in quite a while. As I turned to walk away, he stopped me and stood up to shake my hand.

Pretty cool.

Of course, the wines were what I expected them to be, but I think it was a dinner break well spent.

Yep. I mean, his presence is still hugely charismatic, but he seemed very down to earth.

Now if only we could introduce him to some good wines...

Joe - great interaction. It shows that he probably is really interested in wine and seeing somebody else at those things who is not just interested in his cartoon character work probably made his day.

Anyone here listen to Stern and remember Dr. Remulak, the OCD guy who would call and say his name like 50 times?
