You're tough to calibrate, though. Who do you like in Savennieres?

I thought she didn't like chenin at all?
Come, now, let us not force our interlocutors into the most extreme formulation of their views.

Saahs.

Nikolaihof. Whose wines are much better than his. Though his latest are better.

That's right. But it is not a him; her name is Christine Saahs - and yes, the wines are much more consistent. I have to say that the Joly wines I tasted at the Terroir tasting were much better than I've tasted for a long time. Nonetheless I found the Coule 'hot' - harvested late undoubtedly (Joly loves botrytis).

I found that part of the interview pretty humorous. After ranting and raving about letting the plants express themselves he acknowledged that what he had been going for in one of the wines was a big brown botrytis bomb. Not that I don't like botrytis, but it's not exactly a transparent component of wine.

Prcisment. In fact, I'd say it masks terroir - and a botrytis-lovin' terroir-ist is pretty darned oxymoronic.

Are people still filtering their drink of choice through a philosophical cheesecloth? I thought that was so 2004, fists in the air and all.
