CWD: '98 Ojai Bien Nacido Syrah

1998 Ojai Bien Nacido Syrah, Santa Barbara County, alc 14%: Dark color... very French nose of sweet meat, bacon, hint of iodine...the palate follows closely with a meaty intensiveness with bacon, blood, iodine, etc...the finish is dark and satisfying... drinking extremely well but youthful...a fine Syrah

Someday I'd like to try one of Adam's Bien Nacido Syrahs alongside a Qupe Bien Nacido (regular, not Reserve) Syrah of the same vintage. I'm a big fan of Lindquist's work but haven't had enough Ojai with any age on them to be able to state whether one or the other has a better touch with the variety.

-Eden (and I wonder what an ESJ Syrah from that vineyard would taste like too)

I'm curious why Steve doesn't work with Santa Rita, Santa Lucia or Santa Barbara fruit.

So many vineyards, so little time. I'm sure there are grapes down there I'd enjoy working with, but I ain't the Spring chicken I used to be. I used to drive to Paso and out to Bassetti three and four times a week, during harvest, to monitor the grapes, along with all the other vineyards I was buying from, in the Sierra Foothills, and up in Mendocino County. The trips to Bassetti, and back (to Berkeley) meant seven to eight hours behind the wheel. I did 1500 miles a week and more! A few years ago, when my back went South (without me), I decided it was time to get more judicious about my driving habits.
