Tasting Notes

Joe,

Cellar Tracker is essentially an on-line wine inventory system. For that purpose it's quite useful.

The tasting note section is utter BS however.

What exactly is the appeal of this CT? Who uses it?

Joe,
Assuming you really want an answer . . .

There are just under 75,000 registered users.
Essentially, it is a program to keep track of one's cellar and write tasting notes for wines one has tried. Although only the user can access his cellar inventory, anyone can access the tasting notes.
So for most people it is a tasting note data base and a way to keep a cellar inventory.

FWIW, I do not use it but rather, have my own cellar inventory software (Winebase) that I do use to keep track of what's in storage.
The only tasting notes I write, I post.

Best, Jim

I find the TNs to be useful, though you have to bring a lot of interpretation to them. Haven't I seen your notes in there from time to time? The historical pricing info is interesting, too.

I used to put in a few notes, but have since generally given it up (except for truly exceptional experiences). Too many voices, too many bizarre comments, not worth my attention anymore.

Nah - there's more of the attraction of a train wreck here.

David, someone's calling for Captain Donnhoff over on Lyle's blog. I saw the bat signal in the sky over Gotham.

So, Mr. Smartypants, who is "CT"?

Everybody knows of "CellarTracker". Some of us even remember "CellarTracker!".

You're all scaring away the newbies to deny it. It's like claiming no knowledge of Velcro on a fabric website.

My good friend Joe Dressner used to criticize me for posting the contents of my cellar from CellarTracker back when we were on hiatus from our friendship.

I begin to suspect that this is yet another inside joke that I'm not a party to (no thanks to Putnam), so I'll refrain from commenting further on the issue.

It was SF Joe who criticized you.

He knows that. He's clearly just feigning idiotism.

"Feigning idiotism." That does cause me to reflect on the posting tactics of another WD personality...

Now, now. It's only fair to wait until VLM is around before you go off questioning the sincerity of his idiotism.
