Michigan State Legislature Bans the Jebus!

I just read this on Tom Wark's Fermentations blog.

The Michigan State Legislature, in a bill heavily backed by the wholesalers' lobby, has officially banned the Jebus as an inappropriate way to appreciate wine.

While I might agree with the conclusion, I am against the State enforcing cultural norms and I agree with Tom Wark that this legislation must be reversed.

Whew! I don't know what a jebus is, but I'm glad it's not a jeebus!

Is a jebus some form of failed mass transit concept by GM?

That sounds like a great idea for a motivational wristband!

Rumor has it that this legislation was necessary to prevent unlicensed Jebuses from occurring in recently abandoned foreclosed homes.

Michigan tried banning jebuses before, and everyone just moved them an hour south to Toledo. There's a whole complex of jebus-ready hotels that now ring Toledo, in fact. That and bowling may be the only things keeping the economy going there.

I used to drive a school bus in the Lansing, Michigan area. Between dropping off one load of kids and picking up the next, I'd practice yodeling--something I knew how to do as a kid, and had forgotten. If you know no one can hear you, you can sing as bad as it gets, and not care! Eventually, I became reasonably good!

Seriously dude, next year we bowl! It will not be league play, but...

It's not as bad as it sounds. We (in Michigan) are still permitted to invite people to our homes as long as the primary purpose of the visit is not the consumption of alcoholic beverages. If imbibing is a secondary purpose, and we can demonstrate that, we are within the law as it's presently written.

I don't believe we should exaggerate.
