curious about '96 VieuxTelegraphe Ch'du Pape

My notes from opening 2 out of 6 bottles during 2005 are hardly enchanting,,, though I opened a bottle later. in July 2005 and it had become lovely. Has anyone got any experences from this point out? I initially thought it was getting pale and peak'ed in 2005,,,,
I'm planning on opening another in the next couple of weeks and I'll post notes.
 
I've never had this wine in 96. I have had a couple of 96s recently (one a CdR) that showed surprisingly well, making me wonder whether it was those two wines or whether this was an underrated year. As a general rule, VT does close down and then open up, so there's nothing unlikely about what you are describing, but it would be interesting information about another 96 in support of a hypothetical argument that 96 was really a great CdP year after all.
 
I'm not quite as enamored of the '96 as Brad, but it's still a pretty good bottle of wine. My general rule of thumb for VT is to stash it for 12+ years in the cellar (longer for vintages such as '94, 95, 1998-2000) so we're right at the point where a vintage such as 1996 should be hitting its stride. I haven't had a bottle for a couple of years and at that point it was showing definite signs of CdP-ness but wasn't raging full on. I don't think that it's the sort of vintage that's going to stun anyone with it's amazingness, but it should certainly provide a lot of drinking pleasure over the next few years.

I remember comparing bust sizes and finding myself wanting in that area :')
Ah, to enjoy the pleasures of sisterhood....

I'll be opening a bottle of '96 at a lamb butchering seminar in a couple of weeks. Will let everyone know what I find.
