2006 Franois Pinon Vouvray Cuve Tradition
This started out as round, slightly sweet fun but then turned hollow and something about the black mineral character seemed a bit dirty or at least rough. Does this wine shut down?

2006 Guy Bossard Domaine de LEcu Muscadet Expression de Gneiss
At the core there is some salty crisp Muscadet character but the edges were big round brownish and dull. Not my favorite iteration.

2007 Vissoux Beaujolais VV Cuve Traditionelle
Small-framed earthy fruity berries that were fun to drink for the $13 price but didnt make me as excited as others have been. Although I was using sub-optimal stemware

2007 Vissoux Fleurie Ponci
Tart, crisp, hard, and not particularly giving over a few hours. Was this showing better in earlier months? Does it need more time?

2007 Lapierre Morgon
At first it showed a bit tart for a few people at the table but with air the silky spice box that I love about this wine began to emerge and I was pretty happy. Fragrant, fine, and fresh. Far from the most concentrated version so people with different palates might prefer other vintages. But Im such a sucker for these particular Morgon textures and flavors that Im happy to have them all!

I found the '06 Bossards ponderous. The '07 Lapierre was IMO lovely. But tart for some? That is a strange. Some bottles have been a bit balsamic, but never tart, always gloriously fruity

2007 and 2008 are worse, if in a different way. Sad.

Sad indeed.

What was the problem with 2007? Something beyond vintage conditions? (Which should have been less of a problem than in 06 or 08)

Just bad. The 2008s I tried were uninspired as well.

Bossard has made some truly compelling wines in the past.

Oh well. I guess the loss of inspiration is a factor in selling the operation.

A shame indeed.

No, I think it is probably the other way around.

Like watching Patrick Viera in decline. Hopefully, there will be a Cesc to come along and take the old masters place and put his own subtle stamp on it.

I have been dissapointed with the last few Vissoux wines I've had. I used to like these, not sure what's changed, if anything. I had a Moulin a Vent from them that was Mean and Green.

I've got to have drunk a case of the '06 Pinon. There was one off bottle in the run that was sort of vaguely like you describe. But it was in the middle of the run so I can't report shutting down. A bottle I had a few weeks ago was lovely. I delight in this wine and am sad to watch the price going up, up, up on the '07.

Good to know.

That was mostly currency related, I think.

The 2008s are outstanding.

David at Chambers Street told me today that the next shipment of Pinon will be priced a bit lower, so there's some good news.
