Barolos for Disorderlies

Dave, Larry99 and Ed. I know those guys like their Barolo and their Italian wines. I hope to meet up with all of you one day (in Philly or Jersey).

A Cappelano '95 Otin Fiorin Barolo was one of the highlights of the recent Toledo wine thing. And there was a dust-up over the oak titre on the '04 Oddero normale here on WD.

By the way, check out the Brovia '04 normale if you haven't tried it yet.

John, that would be a great pleasure, and probably very easy to arrange. Let us know if you are close to Fishtown and perhaps we can make something happen.

I do have to say that as I was tasting that Barale I was immediately reminded of the sensory qualities of the occasional cru Beaujolais I have had that were really really excellent. Anyone who likes one of those wines would like the other. I suppose it's questionable whether those Beaujolais will last 50 years but in the short run, who cares.

So, where do I buy my Hut for $9? Are you guys holding out on me, what are your sources?

F

I think you are either being willfully stupid or actually stupid.

Either way, if you don't like it here, move on.

Like most of the fellow disorderlies, I buy, cellar, and drink wine because it makes me happy and is interesting and goes well with food.

I try to enter every encounter without prejudice and own some of the wines that you have posted notes upon.

Thank you.

Everyone else can eat a bag of dicks.

On a related topic, I don't think anyone yet understands where these "modernist" wines are headed. Some things really concern me and I'm not overly optimistic about some wine, but I do believe some will surprise us and maybe create a second paradigm.

This is the way things tend to work.

Again, thank you for upping the nebbiolo quotient. A favorite grape of mine.

er, did I miss something between these posts? I know I'm watching Pineapple Express, but I didn't think I had smell-a-vision.
Anyway, yes, there was the Rinaldi-morphing-into-Oddero-oak thread amongst others, so I don't think Barolo is too-overlooked here.

Bwood likes Brovia? This is why we don't talk about Barolo any more. There's nothing new under the Piedmontese sun.

This thread makes no sense at all. Everyone just go home.

I am home already.

Liking Barolo doesn't strike me as a controversial proposition in too many places on the wine interwebz.

Hey, there's 15 Barbera producers you and I have never heard of in a VS thread. But you are right, liking Brovia isn't exactly a newsworthy events these days.

Well, I enjoyed Frank's notes. Didn't really understand the bag of dicks comment, but I am writing it off to March Madness. Almost any thread about nebbiolo is welcome. I get to Philly from time to time, so maybe I could meet Frank, Larry, Dave and Mo someday. Thanks for the Barale recommendation too.

I wonder if you guys know who this Wasserman guy was?

Hint -- nothing to do with Syphilis.

I have one of his editions on the wines of the Piedmont. A must have for the wine library.

Dave, Larry and others split up part of his wines after buying them following his death, right?

A misdirected vlm missle? Did UNC lose today or something? I've more or less given up watching college basketball.

Barbera is a totally different conversation. It's like eating Fugu prepared by Mr. Magoo.

True. But I suppose we could have conversations about who is preparing the best Fugu these days. If we get tired of the other conversations.

No, Dave split them with his brother. But you have read about many of those bottles elsewhere because Dave is a wonderfully generous man.

Sheldon Wasserman's most famous book was "Italy's Noble Reds."

August von Wasserman devised a test which required so much blood to be drawn that various bookish virgins nearly fainted at the sight as part of their college admission process in the early 1960's.

Isn't that weird? 10 years ago I would have had a bracket filled out and watched every minute. I'm not too interested anymore. Hockey is a different story.

I'm going to the San Jose game on Thursday.

As for vlm's comment, I'm not sure Wine Disorder is really "post-Parker," I think discussions of Peter Parker and the Spiderman movies is still sure to generate discussion here.

Don't ask me. I'm the counter-culture geek who pays more than anyone else for the same wine even though I have less money. Do you know that some of the people here even get wine for FREE? I know. Crazy.

But isn't that one of the 'privleges' of living in the Bay State?

Trust me, it's not much better in the heart of NYS either.

Ooops. The first response was meant for Perry. Will correct.
