Diverse Wines w/Multi-course Dinner

Joe, Fair question! Just a long time online wine/food junkie...like a fair number of other folks over the years!

Initially with the old Prodigy wine board for many years until its demise. Then a bunch of us migrated to the NVN (National VideoTex Network) wine board until its demise. Then the Compuserve wine board until its demise. And so on!

It is good that Wine Disorder is prospering as a venue for free-thinkers and -posters. And also as a venue for folks who are "for the discreet and refined enjoyment of uncommon wine and victuals and the companionship accruing thereto".

Welcome Peter!

I hope you're joining us is not the kiss of death for this board. You seem to have been involved in the demise of several other internet venues.

Did you post pictures on all those boards?

Great quote. Who is it from? Creighton Churchill?

Joe, Thanks!

You give me W-A-Y too much (dis?)credit if you think I (i) had any influence over the economic tribulations of the Prodigy, NVN, Compuserve wine boards or (ii) can influence the viability of Wine Disorder. As you surely know, none of the wine boards go into a decline because of participation by legitimate wine/food enthusiasts.

The quote ("for the discreet and refined enjoyment of uncommon wine and victuals and the companionship accruing thereto") is the slogan for a wine/dinner club that I have a leadership position with. A founder of our club in 1963 was the wine/food editor for the old now-defunct Houston Post and he is credited with coming up with our mission statement.

Did you say now defunct?
Maybe Joe's (dis)credit is more wrranted then you think.
Good line, though . . .
Best, Jim

Jim, The Houston Post newspaper! NOT our wine/dinner club.

The dinner reported in this thread was our club's 421st dinner so we are managing to subsist pretty well thus far.

How many years is 421 dinners?

Methinks you are in for a rude awakening.

Chris, Yes, the potential dichotomy crossed my mind when I cited the quote.

Even so, the magic of sites such as this one is the extremely minimal moderator intervention/policing.

Oh yeah, definitely. On any other board, VLM would've been banned years ago, and that would make me a sad panda.
