Thanks for the pic Steve...wow, must be nice to taste in that setting. For each "human", add 3+ more and you'd have NYC. How'd you do with your French?

Great stuff, the Luneau-Papin, the Bera, the Vergano stuff, Belliviere, Pinon, Briseau, Occhipinti's Frappato were all excellent, with the muscadet coming out of nowhere and knocking me on my ass. Also Scott Kraft looks like I imagined VLM to look, and VLM didn't look at all like I imagined him.

No sign of Kessler or JBLat the SF tasting either. But a good time was had, nonetheless... Nice to see Joe after so long.
As i walked up Folsom St. from my parking space I was surprised to smell red wine in the air. There was a good explanation; it was running in the gutter down Folsom toward the Bay. Oh, the South of the Slot!
Spreading false info, if Bush was still president you would be water boarded. JBL and I got there a little after 12 and left at about 1:30+. The early bird gets the worm. (The Gusano had a long finish)

From memory, some favorites from last night.

2002 Luneau-Papin Muscadet Excelsior was pretty and nuanced, with a rich, nutty midpalate from 36 months spent on the lees. 2005 Closel Clos de Papillon was showing very well, layered and very long. I skipped this vintage but may have to go back and find some. 2007 Bellivere was delicious, but I've forgotten whether this was the l'Effraie or Les Rosiers.

Among the reds, the sangiovese were nearly all winners, particularly 2006 Montesecondo Chianti Classico, 2006 Campi di Fonterenza Rosso di Montalcino, and a varietally labelled sangiovese from the same producer. The 2006 Bourgogne Cuvee Gravel from Catherine et Claude Marechal was a delicious, generous drink with ultra fine, silky tannins, whereas the 2007 is unsurprisingly tight and a bit difficult currently. Both Beaujolais from Desvignes were lovely, particularly the 2007 Desvignes Morgon Cote du Py. Lots of pinosity to the fruit here compared to say, 2007 Foillard (which I also loved). The Vergano Chinato was very complex and engaging if relatively easygoing for Chinato, with more sugar than I remember from others I've tasted. Loved it.

It was great to meet Eric Texier and taste his entire lineup, although I selfishly wished he'd brought some Pergault. I found his grenache based wines very enjoyable considering I tend to dislike most wines made from the grape.

There was titillating conversation galore, and as a result I missed the Chaussard Jasnieres, Fonterenza Brunello, and perhaps a Pommard from Marechal. I also missed the white Vergano aperitivo, but from description it sounded like a crafted version of the Aperitivo Americano (such as Cocchi). Can anyone confirm that?

Unless I goofed, Luca Roagna was missing in action.

It was great to meet Cory, Matthew, and a few other board members as well as see some of the usual suspects again.

I give Scott Kraft's new beard 98 points.
