27 Year Old Sommeliers and Vignerons Soon to turn 29

I was introduced in absentia to Joseph of Detroit's Roast by an admirer of his this evening. It was suggested that maybe Joseph is 27, which reminded me of this, one of my favorite Dressner blog posts:

Of course, Joseph would have been 25 when that was written, and Roast did not exist yet, but somehow he lis includes 10 year old bottles of Savennieres.

I was 38 myself, formerly having been those other ages too.

Age does not matter like I used to assume it did. It matters in different ways.

tonight we drank:

2004 Selbach Oster zeltingen sonnenuhr spaetlese (iirc)
it was slick, sweet, glorious, nice with crab tartlets and bbq mini hot dogs.

2005 Breton Clos Senechal was hypnotic with live black berry pulp, but i struggled to taste it for some reason. Maybe salad did it.

1990 Leoville Poyferre tasted like nice barriques and possibly Howell Mountain Cabernet of about the same age.

1990 Pichon Baron was more pure and liveley, lighter. It was praised all around he table.

these were served with lovely lamb chops and hand harvested wild rice an lentils and various other delicious and colorful side dishes.

1982 Gruaud Larose triumphed, with texture, freshness and detail.

the 1990s were wholesome, like balm for my deprived palate, but they had me wondering - is the vintage over-hyped (suspected) or was there a problem with he provenence of these bottles? I expected more solid textures, more freshness.

Dessert was, not trifle, what is it called, without the cake ... um. It has strawberries and various layers of cream. Good. We drank:

1999 Pierre Soulez Savenieres Doux was golden and decked wih tartaric rhinestones. It was the soul-redeeming wine of he night.

2002 Radikon Jakot was chocolatey and apricot liquor.

2002 Radikon Oslavje was moreso, with apple flavor.

Very much so, in my view. Not that I drink this stuff all the time.
