2005 L'Oustal Blanc Naick 5..from Southern France..this is a dark red wine made from "mixture of varieties from old vines fermented in upright demi-muids"...interesting berry and jammy notes...reminds me a little of Oupia or Heretiques...very good...Not sure why "blanc" is in the name..nothing white about this

Joe, they get off at the +$500 exit. They've got a house there. (And a horse. I hear it's white, but that might just be a rumor.)

Fonquerle lOustal Blanc Vin de Table Nack (France) Apparently, this is a blend of cinsault, carignan, syrah and grenache from vineyards in both Minervois and St-Chinian, hence the VdT designation. And I think this is the 2004 version, though of course theres no vintage on the label. Anyway, its meaty and dense, with an excellent black trumpet-studded earthen foundation and nice structure. The wine seems like it should be blocky, but the aromatics are a good deal more vivid than one expects. It should age for a while, but its an excellent foil for strongly-flavored meat right now. Oustal is a Provenal word for "hotel" or "house"

Our cognate word in English would be hostel, or hostelry.

In Italian there is the Osteria.

The philosophy of the "White House" winery is pretty interesting.

Here, in English:

Oustal-blanc
