Suggestion Box

While the glorious Politburo deserves many, many thanks for their hard work in birthing this baby, I thought maybe a suggestion box might be in order for any ideas or suggestions for tweaks and additions that may have been overlooked or put off in the effort to just get this project off the ground.

With that said, here are a few:

A posting box with more tools. It would be nice to have more font, style and editing options while posting as well as having the upload tab within the posting box. A signature line is also handy for some folks.

Spell check ability for posts. This is very important for Greg Dal Piaz's posts.

As others have mentioned, some sort of a bio section that, at a minimum lets other disorderlies know where other disorderlies reside. Being able to say "Hi, I'm a Gemini and like fishing, cooking and wine" would also be nice.

Color. This isn't 1950. A little color around here wouldn't be a bad thing and may make it easier on the eyes.

That's it for now. Feel free to say FU, but remember, I know where some of yuse guys live.

As far as I can tell Bios are already implemented. Click "settings" in the top right corner, and put some stuff in the "profile" section. Then find one of your postings and click on your name at the end of it. You'll see this bio, along with the user's post and comment count. For you, Brad, there is no Bio which I'm guessing is because you haven't filled out your profile.

Erm, okay I take it back. I just clicked on about 20 members' names and didn't see a single profile/bio. I guess this information is currently private.

Click on mine... it seems to be working.

Two ideas for you. Get Firefox. It has built-in spell checking. And once you get Firefox, you can add a freebie called Xinha that lets you do a lot of formatting. Maybe not everything you want, but a lot of it.

They're letting us post in HTML, which is an open invitation to a hacker, but maybe we'll stay under the radar1.

1 Do Albanians have radar?

Wow, how cool is this Xinha?

Thanks much, Steve, for the tip, I'd never seen this.

I've been spell checking with Firefox since that feature came out, (thugh it seems not to work through to xinha) now if only we could get a few comrades to adopt it.

Oh, I guess you can spell check before you do a final post.

Safari automatically spellchecks, which annoys me. I hate spellcheckers, and disable them when I can.

Oh yeah! I just figured out how to disable it in Safari! Woohoo, no more stupid red lines under every wine name I ever type!

There, that's much bettar.

This frame is 910 pixels wide. Some older browser-monitor combinations (I assume it's the browsers) only fit 760 pixels. I sometimes use one of those, so I'll check to see if this site requires sideways scrolling, which would be cumbersome. On the other hand, if it was supposed to be easy ... it wouldn't be what it is.

Not a request, but I note, with some amusement, that the 'Upload' function has no analogous 'Purge' function.

But, as this is a purely intra-Politburo matter, I am not overly concerned.

Mine spellchecks in French. You can't start to count the red lines.

Yeah, I have the same thing in reverse when I write in French. I'm always amused at the words it doesn't underline.

Whenever I hit 'post' the screen hangs for about thirty or forty seconds before refreshing. Could just be me, though, or a Safari issue. Anyone else?

OS 10.4.11, Safari 3.1.2.
