I don't watch a whole lot of TV, mostly just Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Trailer Park Boys and cooking shows on PBS. My favorites:

1-Brindiamo! Some might say all Ornella Fado does is repeat whatever the person she is interviewing says but with an Italian accent. Chef: Now add some lemon. Fado: Ahlemonah . . . Best. Show. Ever.

3-Jacques and Julia-It's reruns, obviously, but it is great.

2-Made In Spain-Jose Andres enthusiasm is contagious. I'm going to start dressing like him too.

4-Jacques Papin, Fast Food-Would be better if Julia Child were still alive but I'll take it.

5-Good Eats-I reluctantly add this one. Alton Brown is a dork and pretty annoying but sometimes there is good information. And the Coq-au-vin episode was a riot.

Mark Bittman can suck it as can Mario Battali and for that matter Lidia, too. I made it through about 3 minutes of On the Road Again. Horrible. They should all just stay in NYC and away from my TV.

So, what are your favorite cooking shows?
 
Jacques Ppin taught my father-in-law (a neighbor), who previously only knew how to boil hot dogs, to properly cook. Until that time, his favorite TV chef was Julia Child, solely based on the episode where she accidentally dropped the roast on the floor and said to pick it up and serve it anyway because the guests would never know.

Is it a requirement of proper cooking that one debone all infinitives?
 
I don't like "five best" lists but I kind of like cooking shows. In general I can't stand the Food Network though. Jacques Pepin is a favorite. I like Tony Bourdain on TV but it's generally more of an "eating show" than a cooking show I suppose. Ming Tsai can be interesting -- it's odd, sometimes he strikes me as annoyingly "preppie" (and I'm kind of half preppie and half hippie). But everything he cooks looks delicious. And I was always a little surprised that I couldn't tune away from "Daisy Cooks." Her enthusiasm was boundless and she was always cooking something I had never heard of.
 
I enjoyed David Rosengarten's Taste when it was on in the early days of the Food Network. Ditto the early seasons of Good Eats, though AB occasionally crossed my tolerance threshold. However, I haven't had "real" cable for 7 years now, so I'm not exactly up to date.

There was a really nice PBS series called New Scandinavian Cooking that was pretty good. Someone got me the "Sweden" series on DVD as a present, and I've enjoyed that.

PBS has a couple of old shows with Julia and Jacques that are great, including a lot of arguing about the proper role of garlic.
 
Wasn't New Scandinavian Cooking the one with that extremely hot blonde with the accent?

It was on at an awkward time here but I always tried to catch it because of her.

She was always doing unlikely things like mixing drinks made with Akvavit in hip deep snow.

Yes, that's the one. But, they changed up the host for the different countries. She was the host for Sweden and they had some other guy for Norway. Not sure if they did Denmark or Finland.
 
Good call w/ Jacques and Julia and w/Jose Andres. That guy makes me smile.

I used to watch FoodNet cooking shows but find that they just don't hold much interest anymore. I do tune in to old Mario on Style though.

I've started watching Ming Tsai again.

And I like the simple freshness of Jamie Oliver's approach.

Jacque Pepin's Complete Technique. This 10+ year old series has been running again and I am constantly amazed at his skills. I've watched his show on prepping chicken at least three times and I am blown away each time.
