I'm just back from a culinary trip to Chicago, and second the recommendations for Sepia (we had an excellent lunch there) and Hot Doug's. I was a bit disappointed that more of Chicago's well-reviewed restaurants weren't open for lunch (e.g., North Pond). I thoroughly recommend Topolobampo, which is open for lunch. We also loved brunch at the Bongo Room. Shaw's Oyster Bar is good anytime, but especially for 1/2 price oyster happy hour 4 pm to 6 pm every weekday. And I absolutely loved Alinea, which was the main reason for our trip.
