Joe, I was turned off by the Kindle right away and sent it back so I may not have given it a fair shake.
I have now been using the Sony PRS 505 eBook Reader for several books. It is a very impressive device...easily measuring up to all of the favorable reviews I had read about it. It is sturdy with an excellent display and well designed controls and software. Thus far, I haven't found anything to be critical of.
I had a mixup of account information (actually, my wife did) so I had to call Sony Customer Svc several times to get things restored properly. I was MOST impressed with the immediate and quality help that I received. Also, some books got lost in the process and Sony readily gave me new copies then called twice to follow up and make sure that they were available in my account library.
NOTE: The reviews of the newer edition of the Sony eBook Reader (the Sony PRS 700, I believe) are not as good. The consensus was that the older Sony PRS 505 is the way to go.
