A new resto in my neighborhood is having an Austrian wine event, with winemakers in attendance: click for pdf

(If PDFs bore you, the makers are Weinguten Hauser, Zahel, Hajszan, Martinhof, Christ, and Rotes Haus.)

I don't know these folks. Is it worth showing up?

I think I have tasted a wine or two from Rotes haus. Young fresh things. Nice enough Wien-wines rather to drink than remember. If I remember correctly they have the same owners as Mayer am Pfarrplatz.

The rest I don't know.
 
I wanted to go to this tasting but cannot make it. I've tasted a wine each from Christ and Hajszan, and both were excellent. The importers (Darcy and Huber Selections) are apparently from Austria (and perhaps Vienna) and seek to import wines of the type they enjoy in Vienna that are not often imported here.

The wines I've had were:

2007 Weingut Hajszan Gemischter Satz
2007 Weingut Christ Weissburgunder Der Vollmondwein

From what I can gather, both wineries are also restaurants in Vienna. Both were extremely fresh and exciting whites. I preferred the Christ, but bought second bottles of each.

I got both at Thirst Wine Merchants in Fort Greene.

I think a Pinochle, Whist and Canasta jeebus would be a big hit.

I know pinochle and bridge (that should get me most of the way through whist).

But canasta is a game for old ladies.
