Spanish makers

Same resto, more wines I never heard of:

Raventos NV Cava "L'Hereu"
Arrel 2007 Mallorca
Torres Cua 2005 Bierzo
Valderiz 2005 Ribera del Duero "Terruno Hombre"

Modest prices all. Anyone know these makers?

Torres Cua 2005 Bierzo ?

No sign of this on the torres.es website.

Raventos is a large Cava firm of the same family (cousins a few generations back) as Codorniu and situated opposite it.

Torres is the largest Spanish wine brand. But I didn't know they produced in DO Bierzo.

I think you mean

Ribas del Ca Crianza 2005

Sounds interesting (made from Mencia) but don't recall tasting it.

The Ca is middling, in my book - not enough structure for a lot of oak, in the case of the Crianza. Valderiz has a difficult terroir in a cold part of Ribera del Duero, but eventually this should be a plus once they learn how to work with it.

Slight thread drift.

Anna Negra, one of the passengers of AF477 RIO > CDG was a cousin of Manuel Ravents president of Cavas Ravents i Blanc.

Returning from honeymoon.

Scary and sad.

Shows how amazingly lucky the passengers of US Airways Flight 1549 were.

I liked the Valderiz Ribera del Duero 2001 (the regular bottling, not the reserva) quite a bit.

It has been awhile since I checked in, though.
