Vermouth

For some time now, I have been searching for a great white vermouth. Something comparable to Carpano Antica Formulae, but in white.

I recently came across Perucchi Vermouth from Spain, and I am very happy with it. The white offers a fairly viscous mouthfeel, a sweetness level that I might equate with a "bianco" style of vermouth, and subtle notes lent from ageing in old casks that brings to mind traditional white Rioja.

The red from Perucchi is also quite good, with a very perfumed quality, bringing to mind rose hips on the nose. The palate is soft and somewhat billowy, in a lighter key.

Anyway, I point all of this out because I haven't seen this vermouth around town much at the places that one might expect to see it, so I assume that others are as ignorant of it as I was until recently. The pricing is entirely modest.

The other options out there for quality vermouth are so limited that it is senseless not to give this one more play.

Sounds like it's worth a search. Does it come in a little square Cointreau-ish bottle?

Apparently the posters are popular:

More rectangular than square, more similar to Boodles than Cointreau.

I have only seen 1 L bottles. Not sure if smaller are in this country.

Neat poster.

To say that Hayman's is too sweet and then to say you prefer Plymouth, which is far from the driest of gins, is a little odd. To say you prefer Hendrick's may just start to implicate you as someone who doesn't really like the taste of gin.

Perucchi is similar in sweetness to a Bianco style from Italy. Except that there is more going on, and more of a rounder, viscous feel as well.

I am not a gin fancier but I am given to understand that there is not one "taste of gin". The makers can choose among a wide variety of botanicals, right?
