I opened up a bottle of 2006 Barthod Les Bons Batons last night, trying to get a sense of the wine. It comes across very much like Chambolle, dense, brooding, with finely delineated fruit and a firm structure. It showed hints of alcohol, though, despite clocking in at 13%. I figure it's just young - which brings me to my question. How long to cellar such a wine? Les Bons Batons isn't a premier cru or above, but is held in high regard. Have Barthod's wines from this site aged well?

Jim and I shared a 1995 about 18 months ago. I liked it a bit more than he did. Good, but a bit long in the tooth. I have a few 1996 left. I've started drinking 2001. Depending on the vintage of course, I've generally found them to show well young (in a young way). Close down and then open up beautifully 3 or so years after release. The 2006 is probably in shutdown and I'd give the rest 2 or so more years and then drink away.
 
A couple of makers told me that 2006 should be drunk within 10 years, generally.

Barthod's wines are said to take longer than average to come around.

So, I'd give this village wine 3-5 years (counted from bottling, so 4-6 years from vintage).

Not villages, Bourgogne. Other than that, what you right agrees with my experience as well.
 
Not familiar with the vineyard, but I share Jeff's view that the wines of Barthod do take long to show what they have. In the last year I have had some 98, 01 and 02 that were very, very closed

Whites, yes, if you are worried about premox or the balance of the wines. From good producers of reds, I would not agree, although they are charming young.
 
A few years back I had quite a lot of both the 85 and 95 vintage of this. The 85 was very much fresher, curiously, and was sensationally good for the appelation.
