2007 Domaine des Pothiers, Cuvee Rfrence

This is a happy happy joy joy of a wine. It's a gamay from the Cote Roannaise. Pure, interesting, supple, and light red-fruited. Not complex, but wonderful with dinner last night (tacos), and a great value at $10 a bottle.

I'll be interested to see if this wine is as good in a less monkey-blessed vintage than 2007.

I had something similar, and similarly joyous, last night, the cuve G from Domaine de Montrieux (Emile Hrdia), who makes cool 110-year-old ungrafted pineau d'aunis in the Coteaux du Vendmois. G is his 100% gamay bottling. Light and racy, with earth, leaf, fruit and good.

The Pothiers really is a merry drink. I don't know how a wine can do this, but this one has helped turn gloom into gladness more than once over the last few months, the first time, on an especially bleak March day. I stick my nose in the glass. I smile. I drink. I smile some more.

Good call. I ordered this with a recent "boatloads" order and loved it. It even did well on day two. I can't imagine how many wines had to be tasted to find something like this.

I've seen his wines in the stores and finally tasted some today at the Aug event. I liked the 2008 ros but the others were a bit too natural/generic for me. Although I clearly didn't give them as much attention as you did.

I have personal anecdotal experience that this also offers some protection against the swine flu. Tastiest vaccine I've ever had!

Thank monkey!

Really? Maybe I just had a crap bottle, but I found the G to be unfocused and all over the place. His pineau d'aunis is perhaps the best example of the grape I've yet had, but my impressions might be due to Guilhaume's breathless hype.

One of these found its way home with me too. He's a serious bottle-pusher, isn't he? Maybe he should rename his blog.
