NWR: Stupid cupcake trend

Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen. Best hangover breakfast ever invented. I go for the country ham, egg , and cheese, but the chicken (fried, natch), egg, and cheese is the neutron bomb of hangover biscuits.

That would make them perfect. I always want a sausage-or-bacon/egg/cheese biscuit, but have to get sausage-or-bacon/egg, as I eschew American "cheese."

Thats in NC. They offer a livermush biscuit?

Oh, I love barbeque, but like many North Carolinians, I'm fairly particular about it.

Not sure that it exists as I define it outside of eastern NC.

I've been scoring wines based on a cupcake scale for months now.

I recently awarded Massa Vecchia's 2005 IGT Bianco twenty six yellow cake cupcakes with extra pink frosting. Sprinkles too! That's my best rating to date.

Delicious.

Children can cut sashimi too. I'd rather sashimi cut by a child than quiche cooked by a chef.

Well, it's just twice that you have suggested food is somewhat more pedestrian if it is easy enough for a child to make. I was merely pointing out that it doesn't take much more than a good knife to cut up toro sashimi. A child could do it. That doesn't make the dish any more lowbrow, right?

You need to spend more time perfecting your rice technique before you can comment on tuna.

Who needs rice? Just slice it and serve it. Though, making good sushi rice isnt as mystical as some would claim.

Along those lines, I'm actually teaching some older kids to make maki in a few weeks. The youngest I have taught were kindergarteners. They did everything but use my mandolin (for obvious reasons). Its pretty neat seeing a 5 year old make a hand roll. Even the scary looking rolls tasted damn good.

Best,
Joe

Should we just go ahead and start a barbeque fight thread? I have to throw it down. North Carolina is nice, but I'll stick to Texas thanks.

I was mainly responding to the notion that you don't like quiche. Which still leaves me shocked and awed.

But, sashimi involves a lot more than just slicing fish (which is not very easy to do elegantly as I am sure you have seen with your students). When you pay for top dollar sashimi you are paying for the rare high quality fish.

Cupcakes are a different story. Sure, all flour, sugar, chocolate, whatever, etc. is not created equal. But cupcakes strike me as being in a much different league from many other baked goods as they are extremely easy to do well at home and therefore not worth the excessive premium found in these shops. IMHO.

Smoked meat product.

I do like the brisket, but it's not barbeque, strictly speaking.

Oh, I like quiche, I just like sashimi more.

Kids, in my experience, learn how to successfully cut fish faster than they learn how to crack an egg.

I understand your reasoning. I just think that foods easy enough for a child to make should not be judged on that.

Best,
Joe

This exchange with the auteuse takes the cup:

What message do you want to send to those who are waiting upwards of 30 minutes on line for a cupcake?
