CWD':08 Chateau de Segries Tavel

2008 Chateau de Segries Tavel, alc 14%: looks a lot like red kool-aid...nose is sweet strawberry....palate is a bit on the sweet side with fair acidity but a little flabby...a little too fruity and less crisp than I prefer...fair but not great...

To generalize...with a n=4, I am less impressed with low end '08 French Roses compared with the same wines from '07....thus far they seem less focused and less aciditic....I would love to be wrong (as I often am!)...

Another wine tonight with grilled NY Strips, sauteed red chard, yellow corn...

Vertex Just Red Blend No. 610, The Gabrielle Collection of wines (nv)...A1c 14.2%....an invitingly fresh and rich nose of blueberry and forest floor...a mixture of non-oaked ripe berry flavors coats the palate...the finish is soft and gentle with a decrescendo of fruit....quite good and pleasing...especially complemented the simple fresh meal....

The '08 Segries Tavel was a bit to candied and blunt for my tastes as well.

I did prefer the '08 Trinquevedel over the '07, which was a little hot on release and while good, very peppery and didn't have quite the refreshment that I look for in rose. The '08 is straightforward perhaps, but has good acidity and in my couple of experiences it gulped down quite easily at the dinner table.

Also from K-L, the '08 Ch. St. Martin de la Garrigue Coteaux du Languedoc Rose was a bit soft, but nice for

Tasted the St. Martin and Trinquevedel earlier this week, along with a few others. They were OK, but nothing more than that. The Trinquevedel did have an intriguing herbal component, but I still didn't feel compelled to buy any.

I was quite impressed by Mas Champart and Ch. La Canorgue, and did buy a bottle each of those. I like the "variety pack" concept for my Summer Rose drinking so I generally buy one bottle of a particular wine.

Odd. Charvin ros is brighter with slightly more acid kick in 08: From general report, 08 will be much less ripe than 07. But that may not generalize to ross.
