Kane is wrong

I am sure that others will be able to fill in the details, but he was expected at a DC restaurant tonight at 7pm with a bottle (at least) of Baumard QdC. Surprisingly to him, there was traffic, and he wandered in around 8; surprising to us was the absence of Quart de Chaumes or any other wine. I guess I have learned that the problem with the assertion that "Kane is wrong" is that he is a tricky fellow and can be wrong in many ways.

Shouldn't this really be a sticky? Seems better than countless threads with the same title, but then I've not met Kane.

Have never met him, but nonetheless have a mental space allotted to him, the decor of which wholly comprises threads like this.
 
Expected at 7, arriving at 8, that's called 'fashionably late' in Manhattan. To arrive on time, if one is not Jay Miller, is to invite speculation that one is somewhat needy and/or eager to please, and that one has no other competing social engagements.

It's just not done.
 
KIWI ( Kane Is Wrong Indeed ) is a rating rarely bestowed upon a wine, perhaps as rarely as the elusive six stars given to the likes of 1989 Constance.
 
Actually, I was in the restaurant at 7:30. At 7:25 I was in Cleveland Park Wines a couple of doors down with an overpriced bottle of '97 Rene Renou Bonnezeaux Cuvee Zenith in my hand when I gave Maureen a call and asked what wine we were lacking in when she told me to put the bottle down, there was more than enough wine and that people were starving and just get to the restaurant. I do feel like a goof for leaving my wine bag on my table, though.

For some reason Maureen seems to think it takes 5 hours to get from NY to DC. Maybe if you're going 40 mph. It normally takes me 3 1/2 hours. I've done 3, but even I got scared going that fast. Four hours is average. In fact, Greyhound usually does it in 3:50 - 4:00. The traffic that surprised me was getting to the Lincoln tunnel from my apartment. It normally takes me 15 minutes, but I wasn't able to get out of the city for 45 minutes. Otherwise, I would've been right on time despite the beltway traffic.

It was fun seeing everyone, though. Guess I'll save the qdc for the Baumard-a-thon I'm always talking about, but still haven't organized.

Dave-

You should make it to the big city sometime. We've already welcomed fellow St. Louisens Walt Carpenter and Rob Gibson.
