CWD: '02 Jean Chauvenet NSG

2002 Domaine Jean Chauvenet Nuits-St-Georges, alc 13%, $26: Opened but recorked a couple of days ago...now..still very tart and leafy/stemmy with significant tannins...not much fruit showing...not sure what such a profile says in terms of improvement....it would seem to me that the fruit is inadequate to stick around long enough for the other components to be more approachable...
 
Chauvenet's wines take quite a bit of time to come around. Add to that the fact that of all the vintages out there, the only one that I would expect might be as shut down as 2002 in Burgundy right now is 2005 and you've got a real recipe for disaster with what you opened.
 
Added to which I tend to think it's not as useful as it appears to make an assessment of apparent depth of fruit vs structure in adolescent red burgundies. I don't think they behave like that.
