2001 Maximin Grnhuser Riesling Herrenberg Sptlese

Much more approachable than I expected. A nice juicy layer of sweet fruit undercut by a crisp verdant and mineral girding. Starting to mature in the texture and the flavors and there are probably only good things ahead, but this was very well-received at the dinner table tonight and was easy to enjoy. No complaints at all.

I was surprised myself. I bought it this afternoon because I needed something for dinner and this was calling to my sense of curiosity. Even if I was fully prepared to find something awkward. And fully prepared to disregard the clerk who assured me that he had been enjoying it recently.

But, it was a pleasant surprise. I may go back and buy some more!
