I recently enjoyed some Descombes '07 at Terroir/NYC. Quite enjoyable.

Aside from those who criticize anything NYC because there is a Y in between the
NC, what's the issue?

There are 4 pages of Riesling right now on that list. Seems like something to me.

Oh, I'd gladly take it over what I have locally, but that isn't the point.

I'm not all over stuff just because stuff is in NYC, I'm just over "innovation" that isn't.

You can drink Descombes in NC if you want to, for less money, with honest to god barbeque.

I'd love to live in NYC, but unfortunately for me, NYU doesn't pay nearly well enough for me to leave Duke (and Columbia and Rockerfeller are not interested as of yet), so I have to rely on my friends there for recommendations when I visit. Would you recommend that I spend one of my precious 2 or 3 evenings at Terroir instead of somewhere else?

It's an interesting question. Thinking about it, I realized that one of the biggest charms that Terroir in NYC holds for me is the clubhouse role it plays for local wine folks. When I go there I am pretty much guaranteed to run into people from the business that I know, people that sometimes I haven't seen for awhile. It's nice in that way. But I guess that is more of a perk for local wine business types, rather than those just in town for a bit.

Where one goes I think is really dictated by what one is in the mood for. But I do tend by Terroir fairly often, and I like it there.
