While out here in LA I happened upon Wine House, which has to be the biggest wine store I've ever been in. There I noticed they have the '06 Huet I think Le Haut Lieu, maybe Le Mont, Sec half bottles on closeout for $9.99 each. Have at 'em.

Sorry, I got the last '05 Cuvee Constance on closeout for $75. :-)

As a native Angeleno who left long ago and in many (most) ways am no fan, there are at least a few things, e.g., museums such as the Getty, the Simon, the LACMA, MOCA (or whatever it's now called), the Huntington, the Hammer, etc. The totality is staggering, even to a New Yorker who thinks there is nothing anywhere worth seeing more than a block off Fifth Avenue (thereby, of course, ignoring treasures such as the Hispanic Museum that only [certain] visitors to NYC would know about).

Okay, now my interest is piqued.

Any suggestions on the best ones? We actually have a very good tacqueria in Jersey City which was founded by some people who did well with a taco truck.

And yes, I will grudgingly admit that there are worthwhile museums in LA. Just not in public.

Walt Disney concert hall designed by Frank Gehry is something to see especially if there is a musical event going on.
Heresy, Iv'e never tasted a great taco East of the Mississippi.
 
Btw, Jay, if you have time you should get to Palate Food & Wine , in Glendale and Lou's.

Ian, they had two binfuls of the sec when I was there yesterday.
 
The area with which I'm most familiar, which is also one of the better ones for taco trucks, is Highland Park, just east of downtown. The trucks are concentrated on York and Figueroa avenues. You can sample four or five within just a couple miles. There is a Jonathan Gold column on Highland Park tacos which you may be able to dig up.

That's the Hispanic Society with its staggering collection of late 19th century paintings, particularly by Joaqun Sorolla. It's up in Harlem, and only we Hispanics ever get there.
