fourrier bourgogne blanc

i've had 2 bottles of fourrier 06 bourgogne blanc in the last few weeks and i am mightily impressed.

i previously had no idea that fourrier made a white wine. it turns out that the wine is a field blend of chardonnay and pinot gris from a vineyard located in gilly les citeaux at the foot of chambolle. the fourriers purchased the land in 1994. the wine sees no oak.

the 06 is rich and deep. great acidity and balance. medium bodied. a little closed on opening, but a bit of decanting does wonders. classic white burgundy (tasting the wine, i had no idea there was any pinot gris in the blend...). it far out-classes its simple bourgogne classification.

i recommend all the chard haters to try this stuff (just pretend its 100% pinot gris).

does anyone else have any experience with older vintages? (i believe they have only been producing for a few years...)

ps - DIRT cheap for the experience.

Thanks for the information. I think this wine is astounding; didn't know there was pinot gris in.

Astor apparently has the 05. Older? No idea.

P.S. to one and all: why is this thread all screwy, HTML-wise?

It appears to be Steve's fault (but appearances were deceiving, or so says the almighty Politburo)...an extra trailing quote tag at the end of his message.

Re Bourgogne blanc, vdp blanc, etc. from Cte de Nuits producers, many, if not most, have a little patch of white in my experience, although many do not show it. Some of the best I've had, in no particular order: Grivot (actually a Vosne-Romane blanc, except the appellation doesn't allow for it), Clavelier, Gouges (I think it's actually young vines of the NSG blanc), Denis Mortet, de Vog (duh, you know what that is), Digioia-Royer. Clavelier and Rouget have Aligot that can be very good, as well as Digioia-Royer. Jean-Louis Trapet has Riesling and other Alsace varietals -- but they come from his wife's estate in Alsace.
