Rants and Ravings
- I tasted Haag for over a year in excess of 15 times out of any format up to 3L. It's the Spatlese of the vintage, a mind blowing mind that will evolve easily for 20 years. Stole my heart
- Lamiable. I still have some Millesime and the Special Club. Same village from Philipponat. Good wines indeed but need to taste the whole line up to see if they are up too the challenge or a touch too simple. Not my favorite Terroir either.
- De Montille. This is what I look for in wine: a wine for the long haul that has an interesting development rather than a textbook development. Thanks again Tom Blach for this. Have to go back to m y '83. If I had any.
- my first time with Gunderloch and was not impressed. Truth to be told the bottle was not coming out of perfect storage yet the power of 2001 vintage was not there.
- Locret Lachaud was a pleasant surprise. The Brut version was not nearly as compelling. Incredible QPR for less than EUR 23.

Let's put aside the auction wines. I still think there are plenty of contenders just in the MSR:

Haart Goldtropfchen
Vollenweider Goldgrube
Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr
Egon Muller S'berger, haven't had the Le Gallais yet
AJ Adam Hofberger

I've also liked the drier wines from Clemens Busch in that vintage. Not that I don't like the Fritz Haag, it's just that there are so many great ones to choose from.

I say - try the selbach-oster zeltinger schlossberg spatlese*

I have and it was fine, but nowhere near my favorite of anything (not even the wines on the table that night as I drank it with the 07 S-O Schmitt). But, I've only had it once so I should probably try it again.

(Although for whatever reason I'm not sure that S-O speaks to me as much as to some of you others).

Rahsaan, Maureen drinks too much Burgundy - her tastebuds are all shot. I tend to dislike the S-O style (facile is how I would describe it).

I should be clear - I think Daniel's range in 2007 is very strong, not just the basic Goldgrube. I like mixing some Portz in to give it a bit of a kick on the finish.

Also had a very, very good '07 V kabinett from Johannishof tonight, although it's closing down now.
