Deiss is causing trouble

Alsace is anyway a semi lottery - you never know what you will get; dry, off-dry, sweet - but at least (today) you can choose the varietal character, and my choice is 90% riesling, 10% pinot blanc. NB - that's not a blend.

I only recently finished my Deiss 97 Beblenheim and St.Hyppolite rieslings - gorgeous - but I stopped buying when they began with field blends - the ones I tasted at the domaine missed any incisive character, and some had the perfume of gewrtz that turns me off.

I will certainly stop casual purchases if I don't know what's in the bottle...

Billowing minerality? That's a new one. I may have to try the wine just to see what you mean.

Heh. It's something I stole from Terry Theise. Seemed appropriate with this wine.
