Alsace is anyway a semi lottery - you never know what you will get; dry, off-dry, sweet - but at least (today) you can choose the varietal character, and my choice is 90% riesling, 10% pinot blanc. NB - that's not a blend.
I only recently finished my Deiss 97 Beblenheim and St.Hyppolite rieslings - gorgeous - but I stopped buying when they began with field blends - the ones I tasted at the domaine missed any incisive character, and some had the perfume of gewrtz that turns me off.
I will certainly stop casual purchases if I don't know what's in the bottle...
