Wine Disorder Reviewed by Blogger!

On the question of the harmlessness of a certain Ramiz Alia I have generally in the past agreed with Thomas. But I admit to some second thoughts of late (see exhibit A: Palin Creationist). He does seem to know how to behave on that UK board though.

If all he did was defend someone who turned out to be an arsonist, as opposed to actually being an arsonist, I'd vote for letting him in (recognizing that the Politburo doesn't recognize votes and thus phrasing this in the conditional). You need people defending the indefensible as a principle. Of course maybe there's more to it than that. To judge from the blog, despite the critique, he sounds wistfully envious about not being let in to play.

Thomas is a long-standing and well-respected WLDGer, as I'm sure that many of you know. Even if he stood up for the resident Albanian (and I don't recall any exchanges of that nature, but freely admit to my lack of omniscience) that still seems to be scant reason for refusing his registration here. IIRC, others who have been allowed to register here have had far greater association with Enver, and does the politburo really want to go down the path of filtering by past association? It's a slippery slope, innit?

the Politburo makes completely arbitrary decisions, and I, for one, support that wholeheartedly.

I don't know Thomas and don't care but as a general point, does every bored have the responsibility to let everyone in?

Me too. I think Thomas is an interesting guy, and I don't understand the dark hints and long grudges.

You guys can and will do what you want but I would vote with Mark and Jonathan. If we had votes.

Maybe you made a mistake letting the three of us in?

Don't go getting me kicked out. I was offering a conditional opinion subject to correction by the Politburo. I read about the purge and I mean to survive the next one. I have noticed a new rambunctiousness in Florida Jim's tone on this board, after all.

Oh, I absolutely agree. I wasn't suggesting that. Just speculating.

I heard a rumer that the board has been nominated for a MacArthur genius grant. The award committee is just trying to figure out who's in the Politburo.

Well, if history is any guide, the Politburo is quite fond of purges, tovarisch, and no one is really safe -- not even the Politburo.

You keep your head down and you say whatever the Politburo is saying that day, regardless of what they were saying the day before. Individual members of the Politburo can be purged. But the Politburo will survive them. And so will those who succeed in not being noticed. In other words, anonymity, either as faceless power or as an unnoticed speck, will get you through.

What does that do for the level of traffic on a given wine board?

It would reduce it and ultimately eliminate it, but I'm talking about individual survival here, not chopped chicken liver.

Amateurs; if Lenin were still alive he would have split the party three times already.

I'd let Tom in, he wasn't the only one that thought that you could reason with that oaf.

I'll take "People We Don't Like Without Having To Explain Why We Don't Like Them" for $100, Alec.

I was surprised that I got in, and still suspect it was for A) comic relief or B) the delayed gratification of being able to purge someone once they become actively annoying.

But as with Chris, I am also of heavy Irish extraction, so am prone to be brooding, suspicious, surly, and incomprehensible when drunk. And strangely fond of potatoes.
