'06 Vissoux MaV Les Trois Roches

Yixin

Yixin
Minerally, fruity, deep, good tannic bite, blocky structure, somewhat lacking the freshness of acidity. Should it be held longer?

And paired well with Indian food.

Isn't MaV usually an ager? We had this about a year ago with a similar impression, but it didn't seem that deep.

Maybe the year helped.
For myself, I like Vissoux's MaV on release and then several years after - most of the time.
Best, Jim

What about the 2005 Vissoux MaV? I opened one recently but was disapointed. Should I wait a few more years to open my others?

Yep.
When its day comes, that wine will rock your world and change the way you think about Beaujolais forever.
Just plain killer juice.
Best, Jim

I liked it, but we made a point of drinking it over two days and I didn't sense the 'hidden reserve' that would have made me want to put some away.

I don't claim to be a particularly good predictor, however, and and still getting my chops down with B'ais, in any event.

Congrats with the progress of your wines, BTW.

I think the '05 was markedly fresher and superior, but then I had it far younger. Hence my note and question on the '06. Funniest thing is finding this on an Indian restaurant list in Singapore!

Yantra at Tanglin Mall. Other good values include '96 Winston Churchill (well, relative to retail prices, anyway) and some Loires.

Do you think that their storage conditions are OK, Yixin? That's a major issue thereabouts if memory serves.

Storage is an issue in Singapore. I am pulling wines for a dinner tonight and have a cooked '90 Huet Le Mont 1er Trie (fuck), a somewhat off '06 Ch. des Fesles Cab Franc VV (shit), a volatile Solera 1828 (bottled in 1895) Krohn Brothers Madeira (oh well, I was warned beforehand), a half-shot '97 Baumard Coteaux du Layon 'Paon' (fuck as well, I liked this wine). About the only thing that seems okay is a '96 Les Quartiers from Y. Amirault. At this rate the Chave and Rayas I'm saving for a rainy day will be completely messed up as well.

Yantra are a professional outfit, although being a restaurant they run their main cellar at 18 or so celsius to save energy and money on the presumption of sufficient turnover. Their reserve cellar is 12 degrees.

Nice - I'll have to check that out soon. Sorry to hear about those cooked bottles - a real shame.

Cheers,

Salil

Jesus H, Yixin. That's enough to make a grown man (or even me) cry.

Kudos to them. Indian cooking no doubt being held in higher regard there, a restaurant like Yantra has a higher cachet than it would here or in the UK. Even the high scale Indian restaurants here are unlikely to either care much for wine or treat it with any care.

How's the 96 Les Quartiers doing?

Pretty good tonight, but could do with more time. We also had a very surprising '83 Mount Mary Cab Sauv (I thought it was St Estephe) and a lovely '04 Gramenon Sierra del Sud. Poncins from Villard was not too shoddy either.

Don't you keep your bottles clogging up the fridge at home? Maybe you should ask Ying to rent you some space.
